Sample Collection
The maternal blood sample must be taken by a qualified professional, such as a registered nurse. The procedure is completely safe and poses no risk whatsoever to either the mother or the unborn baby.
What does the prenatal sample collection kit contain?
The sample collection kit will be dispatched once your order has been confirmed. It contains everything required to collect the samples and return them to the laboratory.
The kit includes one box containing:
-
- 1 consent form
- 1 instruction sheet for sample collection
- 1 envelope for cheek swabs
- 6 cheek swabs
- 2 absorbent pads
- 2 blood collection tubes of 10 ml each
- 1 instruction sheet for courier collection
- 1 prepaid return envelope
- 1 security seal
- 1 biohazard bag
- 1 tube holder
How to collect the samples and use the kit
You must arrange an appointment with a qualified professional for the blood sample to be taken.
Once the blood has been drawn, more than 7 ml of blood is required and the sample must be placed into the tubes provided in the kit.
The test requires:
-
- 2 tubes of maternal blood;
- 6 cheek swabs collected from the alleged father.
Our collection tubes contain a special solution that helps to preserve the samples correctly. It is therefore essential to use only the tubes supplied in the kit and not to wait more than one day before sending the blood sample.
Please note that the only additional cost associated with the prenatal paternity test is the fee charged by the professional for drawing the blood sample.
Once collected, the samples must be returned using the prepaid shipping label included in the kit. We provide a prepaid return label for all prenatal kits to ensure the prompt delivery of samples to the laboratory.
We recommend sending the samples at the beginning of the week and arranging for courier collection on the same day the samples are taken.
Additional alleged fathers to be tested
We always recommend testing a second alleged father if available. Please note that an additional fee applies.
If, after the results have been issued, a further test is requested, for example to test a second alleged father, new samples from both the mother and the father will be required. In this case, a new prenatal test must be purchased.
IMPORTANT: Precautions for the prenatal test
It is extremely important to understand that the test may produce an inconclusive result if carried out before the 7th week of pregnancy, at least 49 days from the first day of the last menstrual period. Please ensure that the gestational age is calculated correctly.
Complete the consent forms provided with care, ensuring that all mandatory fields are filled in. The forms must be returned together with the samples. Missing or incorrectly completed forms may result in delays to the analysis.
Please also ensure that only the tubes supplied in the collection kit are used. The kit has been specifically designed for this type of analysis.
